A lovely mix of luxury, simplicity, and elegance. It's peaceful and beautiful. A young man (Shohi? Shohei?) explained everything and answered all our questions in English. I showed up in sort of rugged, plain clothes and was treated with the same courtesy that they would someone in all Louis Vuitton. Location very convenient to town and hike. The onsen was lovely and tidy, staff very pleasant, facility and rooms gorgeous. Def top 5 of places I've ever stayed, wish we had stayed longer. We really liked the inventiveness and quality of the dinner and breakfast. There were some dishes that I didn't care for, like the fish liver pate, but it was a .5" cube and a tiny portion of the rest of the meal. So many little plates of seasonal and local produce/fish, soups, pickles...trying so many foods was fun. A gracious lady in a beaufitul kimono welcomed us and upon check-out farewelled us with a "we hope you can come again soon," to which my answer was, "we hope so, too!"

We (couple and an 8 month old baby) stayed for 3 nights in November and everything was great. The staff were amazing. Sho-In and the rest of the team treated us like family and were so attentive. The food was phenomenal with a different kaiseki meal every night and morning. The onsen were adequately hot and beautiful, also with a cold plunge pool and sauna. Gardens out the front of the dining area were also beautiful. The room (we stayed on level 3) was great, comfortable beds, beautiful lookout to see the autumn colours. Parking available for a small fee of 500 yen per night. We cant wait to come back!

Spacious table-seating in the dining room, all tables having a view of the garden (really a park-like setting) and a menu that deserves an international rating at the highest levels, and that applies to both dinner (the landscape outside the glass wall is softly illuminated) and breakfast that offers Western coffee selections and the best of Japanese tea. We booked two nights and we were delightfully surprised to find that both the dinner and breakfast menus were varied. The wait staff and chefs paced the meal to our habits, and as English-speaking guests we never were challenged in communications.

Great location in Unzen, close to town, Unzen ropeway and walks Very chic, restrained elegance. Very professional welcome and private escort to room. Quiet restful beautiful setting gazing out to garden and autumn foliage. Excellent evening Kaisei meal. Excellent inside and outside onsen. Room was just gorgeous.

A lovely experience in Unzen. Hotel is a nice mix of traditional ryokan and western hotel. The best of both worlds! Onsen is beautiful. The food was plentiful and very nice, in a traditional style. The staff made a great effort to communicate with us in English, which was appreciated.
